Dr. Linda W. Peterson

About the Author

Linda W. Peterson-St. Pierre, PhD, is a Medical Psychologist and Professor Emerita of Pediatrics and Family Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where she taught medical students, interns, and residents for 35+ years. While serving as Director of Behavioral Sciences in 2004, she was named Best Teacher of the Year. After retiring from UNR, she taught the course, The Difficult Patient, for ten years using trained actors. In addition to several books, Linda’s work can be found in more than 60 publications, many media outlets, and in national and international publications.

 

Linda has conducted a clinical practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Reno, Nevada, working primarily with children and families navigating the chaos of divorce, or emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse. She has testified as an expert witness in family courts for more than 30 years and is certified in mediation, collaborative divorce, and custody evaluation. In addition, Linda has published and presented for Forensic Medicine internationally. She currently works with clients who are grieving over a loss or preparing for a natural death experience.

 

Dr. Peterson-St. Pierre has been a consultant with the National Trauma and Loss Center for Children (TLC) since the publication of her book, Children in Distress: An Art Screening Tool (1996). In 2006, Linda was awarded TLC Supervisor of the Year. Between 2008 and 2018, she created and presented nationally the 12 CEU online course, Clear Vision: The Power of Story for Therapists and Teachers, and a 6 CEU online course, Write Out Loud: Reconnecting Military Families. These classes were available in person at CASAT, University of Nevada, Reno. Linda has also completed a voiceover PowerPoint, Analyzing Children's Art, for YouTube in 2024, for professionals working with, or representing, abused children.

 

Dr. Peterson-St. Pierre currently helps people find their own inner wisdom through structured writing workshops based on her certification with the Intensive Journal and Journal to the Self. These retreats assist with exploring one’s life and legacy and resolving inner conflicts. The retreats are held in the beautiful surroundings of Nakoma Resort, Clio, California.
